About
Ephraim
The
most picturesque setting on Door County's peninsula is Eagle Harbor.
Nestled between the Harbor and the limestone bluffs surrounding
it, is the Village of Ephraim. Ephraim is renowned for it's tranquil
beauty and spectacular sunsets. It is a village rich in cultural
and historic
heritage. Through the efforts of local organizations, the history
of Ephraim has been preserved for all to appreciate. Visitors may
tour the Anderson Store Museum, Anderson Barn Museum, and the Pioneer
Schoolhouse. Historic walking tours are conducted 3 times per week
during the summer.
The
two white church steeples standing tall over the village, belong
to the Ephraim Moravian, and Bethany Lutheran churches, both date
back to the 1800's. It was pastor Andreas M. Iverson who led the
Moravians to establish the Village of Ephraim in 1853.
On
father's day weekend, Ephraim celebrates the Scandinavian ritual
of summer, the Fyr Bal Festival. Music, traditional dances, food
and crafts line the shoreline and streets. The climax of the Festival
is the naming of the Fyr Bal chieftain, who then lights the ceremonial
bonfire, signaling others to light their bonfires around the harbor.
This is followed by a fireworks display. Truly a breathtaking experience.
The bonfires symbolize the ancient Scandinavian tradition of burning
of the winter witch, to welcome the advent of summer and ensure
a bountiful harvest.

During
the summer many musical events highlight the beauty of our Village.
The Mid Summer Music Festival is in June, at the Hardy Gallery.
The Peninsula Music Festival is at home in Ephraim. Performances
are held in August at the Door County Auditorium. Fall brings the
American Folk Lore Theatre indoors to the old village hall.
The
Harbor is the focal point for many activities including a sailboat
regatta during the 4th of July weekend. Ephraim is also home to
many fine restaurants, shops and galleries.
Ephraim
truly is a special destination for Door County visitors. We would
be honored to make your visit complete by having you as our guests
at the Village Green Lodge.
